The Arc d’triomphe “Macedonia” is one of the flagship projects of the entire undertaking to change the appearance of the capital.

At the opening ceremony on January 6 2012, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski stated that he was the chief ideologist behind the entire “Skopje 2014” project.

Valentina Stevanovska’s design for the arch or gate, an enormous building resembling the iconic arc d’triomphe, was selected in a call for bids. She is amongst the young artists selected during the call to place 35 sculptures in the centre of Skopje. The colossal arc is 21 meters in height and is enveloped in reliefs covering an area of 193 square metres which highlight various symbols and events of Macedonian history. The interior of the structure contains a gallery space on two levels as well as a souvenir shop. The upper part of the gate has an observation platform with three telescopes, and two elevators and two stairwells lead to it.
