The “Skender Bey” Square will connect the Cair and Centar municipalities and is being built in stages, starting with the southern entrance to the Old Skopje Bazaar.

The cornerstone of the square was laid on January 17th 2012. The first stage ended with several months’ delay due to the bankruptcy of the contracted Austrian construction company, Alpine Bau, in the spring of 2013.

It is envisaged that the square will cover 28,674 square metres, all the way to the building of the Macedonian Philharmonic. For this purpose, the Goce Delcev boulevard is being covered. The task has been relayed to the Bauer BG company. At the same time, the Municipality of Cair published a call for bids to select a design for the mosaics on the pedestrian bridge.

Once the second stage is complete, a tender will be published for construction of the third stage. The third and last stage is the construction of an underground two storey car-park with a capacity to house 400 vehicles on the location of the present parking lot near the “Ilinden” department store.
